Re: [OMC-Boats] OMC-Boats Digest STRINGERS GOING BAD:(

The only way to properly fix this issue is to cut out the majority of
the interior floor. this will allow access to the the water-logged
foam and structural (wood) stringers which originally served as the
backbone or skeleton to the hull and engine mounts.

If you continue to use the boat, the sterndrive assembly, including
the "Stringer-mounted" power head will eventually "walk" loose from
the stringer floor mounts. In some cases, this has ripped out the
transom seal and when that happens, sea water can rush in and result
in (extreme cases) the boat rapidly sinking.

So this is a labor-intensive process, but several people have pulled
it off, especially during the off-season. There are photos of projects
on Phil's site and other sites like fiberglassics.com
