I used to be in auto body repair and have welded nuts on broken bolts
quite a few times. the bolt being in aluminum takes extra care, but what
I would do is as soon as the weld solidifies, quench it with a cold wet
rag until it is cool to touch. It will tend to harden the weld and help
shrink the bolt. I know we used to heat rusted bolt heads cherry red and
quench them and they would turn out quite easily. It is worth a try.
