This is how I remove the stern drive on the 1969 210 Rogue. First I have a
little stand made of plywood and 2x4's. The plywood top is about 2ft square
and has a slot cut in it to fit the skeg. The slot portion is carpeted to
protect the paint. The 2x4's give the stand some elevation and there is a
plywood base. The slot has to be wide enough to seat the skeg well toward
its base giving a good "purchase" as the sterndrive is top heavy. There are
carpeted 2x4's below the slot to stabilize the skeg in the slot. You want
the sterndrive to stand ramrod straight up - no wobbling. I put this stand
on a low garden wagon so I can roll it around but you can put wheels on it
just the same. You can raise or lower the tongue of the trailer which will
make the rear end of the boat with stern drive raise and lower etc. I put
the tongue about mid height and set the stand and all in place and raise the
tongue which lowers the drive into the stand. Loosen the cap bolts and give
it a little more descent and it will come right off. Slide out the electric
shift cable last. This keeps me from having to lift the drive which is too
heavy really - I have done it but it is bad for the back. Reverse to put
back on. You may want an assistant the first go round so the sterndrive
doesn't fall over or off the stand. Tom K.
