I'm following this mechanical conversation about 1/4 of the way; most of it
is over my head, but some of it penetrates. I may be able to offer some
insight into a flusher for the old Evinrude intake system. My 1964 Sweet 16
originally had a '64 90-S outboard (which had similar problems to those I see
described - a careful carb tuning helped for about a week) that eventually threw a
wrist pin and scored the cylinder. It was toast, so I replaced it with an
E-rude '75 70 hp and have had nothing but good luck since. In any event, the old
motor had the water intake down by the prop too and I was able to find a
flusher specifically designed for that intake. I don't know if the outdrive of an
old E-rude I/O has a similar arrangement, but if it does, I have no use for the
flusher, and you're welcome to it.
