It probably is a minor issue. You can always remove the 3 screws to the
quadrant gear to lower the stern drive and go boating. When you are through
you can raise the unit and reinstall the quadrant gear to elevate the drive
unit for road travel. You can tow the boat with the drive down but you risk
damage to the prop and skeg. This is temporary till you fix the tilt motor.
You could even disconnect the quadrant gear and use a 2X4 block to elevate
the stern drive for travel. Block in for travel, Block out for boating. It
is the end of the season so you can work on the tilt motor issue this
winter.
I took the Rogue out today for maybe the final run of the season. It is
so nice cruising the Waccamaw River with the wife and kids. No one wanted to
ski so I guess the water temp is too low. We had a nice ride. Several years
ago I mentioned using NAPA Chevrolet Blue as an alternative spray paint for
the foot which is a blue color of Evinrude. This paint works well but I have
found this summer that the paint fades in some areas at the upper drive
housing and I am not sure why. Just thought I would pass that along. I
posted a note months ago about taking the boat to the ocean, the Atlantic
Ocean to be specific via the Folly River near Charleston. It was a lot of
fun but everything that was not stainless obtained a patina of rust so don't
do that unless you are willing to redo things you spent hours restoring.
Maybe next year I will leave the boat home when I go to the beach. Time to
start thinking about those big winter projects on the boat. Dont forget to
drain the block or whatever for the winter. Spring boating will be here
before you know it. I will be doing interior work on seats and cockpit
stuff. I need a new rub rail but that will probably be next year. Will be do
some gel coat maybe in 2 years Tom K
