[OMC-Boats] Play in steering Evinrude Sportsman 155

There seems to be quite a bit of play in my steering. I have noticed that the steering wheel can be turned 45 degrees and the rudder position indicator is at 0 (same as when the wheel is at 0).

Is this normal or is there something that can be done to make the steering more precise?

It is a 1970 Sportsman 155.
