[omc-boats] Re: omc-boats-digest V1 #540

I would pull out the intermediate shaft and check the bearing - it is not
all that hard. Look for leaks in the seal and wornout bearings - get a SELOC
manual to see the differences in the earlier intermediate housings and for
good instructions on pulling the shaft.. The earlier housings had a grease
fitting and a plug and you removed the plug to vent the cavity when you
filled the cavity through the fitting. If you did not remove this plug then
you can damage the seals. The second type has a fill plug and none appear
to have a drainage fitting. You have to remove the shaft to really drain the
cavity. Otherwise you can withdraw the fluid through the fill hole which
probably is very hard. A worn outer seal will show oil dripping outside
around the shaft. A worn inner seal will give you oil in the bilge. Good
luck. TK From: "omc-boats-digest" <owner-omc-boats-digest@...>
