Hi Dan,
I'm afraid I don't have the answer to your question, but I'm interested in
what you find out. I have a '67 Starflite 100s and have also had similar
problems, (except you see seem to have a better grasp on what all the little
black box thingies are than I do ;-) I know that some of the electronics are
looking pretty flaky on my system, and am debating whether to focus my
efforts on this motor or a slightly older Johnson 100 with points ignition,
that is currently on my Sweet 16. Seems that the Johnson might be the more
straightforward one, but I've never tried to get it running since I brought
it home. I look forward to any discussion on this topic, and just wanted to
let you know I see myself "in the same boat" as you.
Cheers,
Ian

Subject: [omc-boats] RE: omc-boats-digest V1 #586
I have a 1966 Evinrude 100 HP outboard on a Sweet 16. The charging system
is my problem. It consists of a stator, transistorized rectifier (fastened
to the rear of the powerhead between the cylinder banks) and 4 diodes (2
positive, 2 negative) which are also fastened to the upper powerhead. It
does not utilize the junction box inside the boat which older versions of
the V4 engines used. My question is this: can I convert this engine to the
older style junction box setup and eliminate the rectifier and diode set
currently on the engine. My reasoning tells me it should be entirely
possible. The need to do this is based on the fact that both the rectifier
and the diodes for this model are very difficult to come by and worse yet,
they are a ridiculous price. I have replaced the diode set once and it
worked for a while but I suspect the rectifier is NFG and ruined the new set
of diodes. In any case fellows, can I have your opinions ?
Thanks
Dan McCormack
