Re: [OMC-Boats] 1964 Dual OMC Deluxe Spotted

The problem with the little Chevy inline 4's is their power-to-weight ratio. That's what was so ideal about having the dual 480 two strokes. The were ultra-light, feather-weights!

Another possibility would be to adapt the later OMC 2-stroke V6 outboard engines to an intermediate housing. Then you would have some serious power with very little weight.

OMC apparently once explored this possibility, but found they could buy GM automotive 4, 6, and 8's cheaper than they could built V4 and V6 2-stroke power heads, so they didn't take the idea any further with respect to sterndrives.

Wouldn't it be beautiful with a pair of inline sixes? It'd be no less practical than your typical modern Baja or Donzi (which are absolutely a joke, but who cares?). The hull probably isn't designed for that kind of speed, but trim tabs and maybe a bunch of ballast foward would help. I love the sound of dual engines and the handling would be amazing. Those dual throttles already look sexy - I can't imagine how well the thing would turn when you pinned the outside engine in a corner and cut the inner to idle. You could probably flip it if you got it to dig in in a corner...
