Yes, I was going to suggest the same thing. I finally bailed on my mechanical pump opting for an electric one. It does wonders for an immediate start! Cranks right up on the first turn of the key!

you can always just abandon the original and rig up a remote electric fuel pump. NAPA auto parts. cheaper, more reliable. i mounted mine on the back transom outside the actual engine compartment.
